X-Con 2009

Okay, before I go to bed I'd like to tell you a lil bit about the X-Con 2009 in Berlin.
The con was organized by three philes (Sgiath, FWM and me) for philes.
We three never met in real life before the con. We did all the work online. We even managed to get a star guest - Dean Haglund. Well, we would have been able to get two more star guests to complete The Lone Gunmen, but we hadn't have enough interested fans. So it was "just" Dean. Just? Well, we're so happy that we were able to get him! He was amazing!

I went to Berlin last Thursday where I met FWM. Together we welcomed Dean and his friends Phil and Lyle, who were in Berlin with him to film the documentary called "The Truth is Out There" which is all about conspiracy and stuff like that.
Anyway we spent the first evening at the lobby together with Dean, his friends and some other philes. Later on we celebrated FWM's birthday. The cake was delicious although the chocolate cover was soo hard that even a fork had to capitulate ;D
On Friday there was a tour with Dean, his team and some philes who won that tour. So Achim and me, both drivers, collected all the participants at the hotel and went to our first stop - the Bendlerblock.

Lyle and Phil - panic!! ;D

So while Phil tried to catch some good views with the camera, Dean was very interested in all that history related stuff.

very good casting on Tom Cruise ;D

Afterwards we went to the stasi museum where Dean needed to pose in front of some sausages. Don't ask me why. I was only the driver... *lol*

Then it was the memorial place Hohenschönhausen, which was a stasi prison back then.
That was really impressive. Our guide was a prisoner himself back then and he told us some really cruel things. Unbelievable things.

After all that heavy stuff we needed a break and so we went to a Mexican restaurant.

Next stop was an old NS bunker. At first we had some troubles concerning filming but when we arrived there everything was fine. Spooky! Again Dean was really interested in all the history stuff, same goes for Lyle, while Phil was filming, again.

In the meantime the philes went silly...

trying to kill

And even Lyle seemed to have more fun in being silly than in learning about history...

help, the camera is attacking!

On Saturday we had Deans improv show, autograph sessions, role plays, lectures, best fanart...
We even tried to find the ugliest tie...

And we had a Jamison Young there, who gave autographs and also played a short concert :-) I wasn't able to attend his gig but everyone told me that it was awesome.

The organizers also got interviewed by an independent local film crew.

On Sunday we had another autograph session, lectures, a question and answering panel by Dean and Phil which was recorded for their podcast on Chillpak Hollywood Hour.

All the time through the con we saved money for some charity causes and in the end we were able to spend 585€ for a youth camp for kids with neurofibromatoses.

And then we had to give away the prizes for best fanart, best costume etc. and out of all first places we allot one big winner who got the X Files Complete Box (that black thingy there).

yer, that's really me with the mohawk...

Maybe I'll post some more pix and infos during the next days. But I can't promise. There are lots of things to do for work. And we still have to evaluate the convention and need to think about a 2nd one.

back home

What a weekend.
I finally arrived back home from the X-Con in Berlin after a stop and go drive for about 14hours instead of 5,5hours.
I was so damn tired that I needed a break for one hour after about 30mins of driving.
But however I made it home. Finally.
I really should tidy up our apartment but to be honest, I'm not in the mood. All I wanna do, after that weekend, is to relax. Just doing nothing.
But I'm afraid I won't be able to do so. I have to do some work related stuff, like preparing my next lessons. And there are also some books waiting for me. Need to read alot more books for my second written thesis. But I can't really concentrate on that stuff. I already tried to do so today, while I was waiting at the doctor's. Was there because there's a swelling between two of my cervicals and touching that swelling really hurts. And while I was waiting, I tried to read a lil bit. But I nearly felt asleep every time.
The doc took some blood and then I was given a heat therapy for the cervicals. Didn't worked. Still hurting.

I'll post a report of the con during the next days.
Right now I just say: It was really really stressful, but it was also lots of fun! Thx.
MAYBE there is hope for a second one. Stay tuned ;-)
